Flea treatment in South London

Usually after a pet, sometimes after a previous tenant. Fleas live in the carpet and soft furnishings, not on the animal, so the room is what gets treated.

Signs you have fleas

Fleas are most often noticed by the bites before anyone sees an insect.

  • Small, intensely itchy bites, usually clustered around the ankles and lower legs
  • A pet scratching or biting persistently at the base of the tail
  • Dark specks in a pet bed or on light bedding that turn red-brown when damp
  • Tiny dark insects jumping from the carpet, particularly near skirtings
  • A sudden outbreak after returning from holiday to an empty house
  • Bites starting shortly after moving into a property that previously had pets
Flea treatment in a South London home

Flea pupae can lie dormant in a carpet for months and hatch in response to vibration and warmth. That is why an empty property can suddenly produce an infestation the day someone walks in.

How we treat fleas

Treating the animal is a vet job. Treating the property is ours, and both have to happen.

01

Survey

We confirm it is fleas and identify which rooms are affected, which is usually wherever the pet sleeps and sits.

02

Preparation

We tell you what to vacuum, launder and move. Thorough vacuuming beforehand triggers dormant pupae to hatch, which makes the treatment far more effective.

03

Treatment

Residual treatment across floors, skirtings and soft furnishings in the affected rooms.

04

Aftercare

Clear instructions on vacuuming afterwards and on treating the animal through your vet, so it does not start again.

What affects the price

Priced by the number of rooms rather than by the property.

  • How many rooms are affected
  • Whether carpets, rugs and upholstery are all involved
  • The amount of clutter and furniture to work around
  • Whether a second visit is likely to be needed
  • Whether it is a void property being prepared for a new tenant

Common questions

Do I need to treat my pet as well?
Yes, and through your vet rather than a supermarket product. If the animal is not treated it will simply reseed the carpet and the treatment will have been wasted.
Can I stay in the house?
Yes. You will need to keep off treated floors until they are dry, and we will tell you exactly how long. Pets and children stay out of treated rooms for that period.
I do not have a pet. How do I have fleas?
Almost always a previous occupant did. Pupae survive in carpets for months and hatch when a new person starts walking around.
How long until they are gone?
Bites usually stop within a few days, but you may still see the odd flea for two to three weeks as remaining pupae hatch onto the treated surface and die. That is normal.
