Ant control in South London
Garden ants streaming across the kitchen floor in summer, or pharaoh ants in a block of flats. The two need completely different treatments.
What you are likely to have
Most domestic ant problems in South London are black garden ants, and most of those come from a nest outside.
- A defined trail of ants along a skirting, worktop edge or doorway
- Small piles of fine soil between paving slabs or at the base of a wall
- Flying ants in large numbers on a warm, humid day in July or August
- Ants concentrating around a food source, a bin or a pet bowl
- Very small yellow-brown ants in a block of flats, which suggests pharaoh ants
- Activity that continues through winter, which is not normal for garden ants

Pharaoh ants are a different problem entirely. They nest inside heated buildings, spread through blocks and split their colonies when sprayed with the wrong product, which makes the problem worse.
How we treat ants
The nest is the target. Killing the ants you can see achieves nothing.
Identify
We confirm the species, because the treatment for garden ants would make a pharaoh ant problem considerably worse.
Trace
We follow the trails back to find where the nest actually is, which is often outside the building.
Treat
Baiting that the workers carry back to the colony, so the nest is dealt with rather than the trail.
Prevent
Advice on sealing the entry points and removing what attracted them, so next summer is quieter.
What affects the price
Garden ants are usually a straightforward single visit. Pharaoh ants are not.
- The species
- Whether the nest is inside or outside the building
- How many rooms or units show activity
- Whether a block or multiple flats are affected
- Whether external treatment of paving and borders is needed
